Scheduling
Dynamic (or micro-) scheduling
- Allows direct points of entry into the flow by all parties (PI/OT, agent,
survey manager, pipeline/QA, archive)
- Instantly responsive to changes in conditions, facility
status, TOOs,
- Fulfills project comletion goals
- Can perform telescope "trajectory balancing" by weighting
criteria
- Will perform field "load-balancing" by a automated
manipulation of weighting
- Simple self-maintaining periodic monitoring
Macro-scheduling
- Expensive in development cost
- Computationally expensive or poor in rapid follow-up
- Not demonstrated to be superior to micro-scheduling in ground based telescopes
- SPIKE has been considered and rejected by JCMT, ALMA. At the Baltimore ADASS SPIKE developers lukewarm as to the suitability for ground-based telescopes.
